IUIs

bcarneybcarney Member Member
I'm 36 no issues 3rd iui with a trigger and clomed, anyone else having problems with not getting a positive? So frustrating.
I get monitored but nobody tells me if the egg is a good size or if we're even nailing it on the right day. I would think these clinics know what their doing but now I feel like I'm questioning every move they make

After age 35 the quality of our eggs begins to decline precipitously. Sad but true. Even if you are hitting it right on time and the sperm is awesome, the chances of getting pregnant are still depressingly low.

I did 11 IUIs, including 5 with injectibles and just one BFP (on a non-medicated cycle) which I lost at 7.5 weeks. I finally got my BFP on my second round of IVF. I'm now 10.5 weeks and praying every day for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. I started the process at 39 and am now expecting my baby just after my 41st birthday

I would talk to your RE about your chances and perhaps moving onto IVF. The RE should be telling you the size of the follicle and monitoring you to make sure it is the right day. Mine did the IUI 36 hours after the trigger, and some months I did back to back IUIs. My follicles were generally triggered after 18-21mm in size.

But most importantly, you should be talking to your RE and if you feel that s/he isn't answering your questions, go to another clinic

Thanks for the info Anne, I don't get it. Some get prego on the 1st try at age 40 and some take like you said 11 try's. I can't afford IVF and there's no way I can afford the drugs that go along with IVF. I'm kinda relying on the iuis.

I also had a hard time understanding why it's so hard to conceive with IUI especially if there are no apparent fertility issues. As a single mom to be I certainly thought I couldn't afford IVF or the Meds plus donor sperm. Well honestly after 3-4 medicated IUIs all paid out of pocket it ends up being the same amount. But I had nothing to show for it because they were unsuccessful. Looking back I wish I just saved my time and money and started on the IVF track which has a much higher success rate for women over 35 years. I lost faith in the IUI process after about 4 medicated cycles but still tried another 3-4 times. The problem is that there's no way to determine the egg quality even if you ovulate several eggs.

How old are you? If you have fertility coverage then you are in a better position than most of us on this forum. I was working long hours and sticking to a strict budget in order to afford everything plus a low interest personal loan. You do what you have to...I have no regrets! I'm now 16wks tomorrow!!

Good luck and I hope that your success comes quickly:-)

Hey my insurance covers 80/20 right now but not ivf. If I knew exactly what it would cost each cycle I might try IVF. But I can't assume ya know. Maybe you could give me some costly information?
Before IVF I need to know exactly what goes on.
How did u do it for a cycle? What was it like?

You're lucky that you have some coverage....that's awesome! As for the cost it varies significantly from clinic to clinic and from state to state. Several ladies have posted their costs on the forums under "Fertility treatments" and you can also look at the thread "First IVF.....my experience" There's a ton of info about what many of us have experienced and our outcomes....some positive and some still working towards that positive. I also saw a post under "Share Your Story" and thread was called "Avon" that one describes financing IUI's. It's easy to find, just do an advanced search and the forums should pop up without you having to scroll through years of posts :-)

    Hope this helps!

I would ask questions like what are my egg sizes my wife didn't get the eggs the doctor wanted on clomid and changed us to femara. Then had us to injectables, these cost about $10-20 a day for 7 days. Ask to buy them over seas and have them sent to the doctor. In the US they are $80 a shot. Our doctor took care of the ordering and we paid them.

The doctor wouldn't do any process unless we had 2 eggs that were around 20mm. He wanted 25-30 mm eggs the day of the iui. We had to use the trigger at an exact time so the sample was waiting on the eggs to drop.

We also have 80/20 insurance and was able to put all ultrasounds on insurance

The doctor had us do a lot do ultrasounds think on our try that worked we had close to 3-4 to make sure our eggs were doing good.

Familylove hang in there it took me 4 times to get a bfp today however I got tested to early so I need to go back on Monday for another test. Not sure why but I guess I have to have faith.

I got my period today. I didn't even get a negative pregnancy test. My body saved me the trouble. This feeling is worse then I thought it was going to be. I hate myself n I feel like I hate the world right now. And it's not like I can just get up n try again cause I don't have insurance that covers it so I'm paying out of pocket. N sadly I have no saving to tap into. I just hate that it has to be this way. I feel like ill never get my family n ill never be a mother.
Good luck to you. Thank you for listening.

Familylove3, reading the postings on here I see a group of women who have so much faith and determination. You are among them. I am sure you will find a way. Keep your head up.

hang in there! I know the first bfn is horrible......we have all been there. That doesn't mean it won't happen. Give yourself time to grieve, you are allowed. Then get your thoughts together and tell yourself it will happen. Use positive thoughts, envision your family envision yourself pregnant and have faith. Be good to yourself this weekend yell scream and on monday come up with a game plan!

    baby dust and positive thoughts!
