Day 5 post IUI

harleanharlean Junior Member Junior Member
Ok, so my partner and I got an IUI done on 05 Sep. The RE told me to take 200mg progesterone suppository virginally nightly. I have all the freaking side effects and I hate it. The clinic told me to continue taking it until they tell me to stop. The only good thing about it is that it has helped with my migraines. I want to stop taking it. I don't think this cycle worked, neither does my partner. I trust her intuition as it is usually right.

I test on 19 Sep. I really don't think I'm pregnant and believe this whole thing is a waste of my time and I'm just getting fat.

Any words of encouragement? Am I the only one who feels like this? My partner is trying to convince me to "hang in there until we are 100% certain.".

I'd hang in there. Better to be safe than sorry. Just focus on the positive- that it helps your migraines! :) good luck and baby dust!

Thank you ladies for the encouraging words and prayers. I called my doctor to ask what the side effects are of the progesterone. She said discharge and irritation in the vigina. When I told her all my symptoms she said it could be really good news (pregnant) or bad news (af is coming). So I got my hope back. In the last 4 days I have added to my symptoms: trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night, followed by insomnia because I could not find a comfortable position. Going to the bathroom at night is not something I normally do, as I love to sleep and don't like having my sleep interrupted.

I took HPT's but all came back negative. But I think it may have implanted yesterday morning as after the trip to the bathroom. I felt sharp, pointed pains in my lower right abdomen for a few seconds. If my calculations are correct that was 10 days past O. So of course, HPTs would be neg. I'm really learning about HPTs and their claims.

So I'll have blood work on 19 Wed. afternoon. I may hear back from the doctor on Thu or Fri. I just hope this is not all in my head.

    harlean,
hang in there, that pill is to help the lining of the uterus so your body can hold the embryo. Thats what i was told anyways. so you have to take it until your tested by your doctor, if you stop it and then you find out your pregnant, your putting yourself at risk for a miscarriage. if you get a BFP, you will take it for a few more weeks until your RE tells you to stop. i hate taking it, you can however, take it by mouth, but it makes you extremely tired. my Fertility specialist said i could take via the mouth if i didnt like the side effects of putting it in vaginally

Just a precaution, progesterone gave me all the pregnancy symptoms when taken vaginally. I didn't realize this after my first IUI and wished someone has informed me...I remember focusing on every little twinge I felt. The progesterone made me extremely fatigued, I had multiple bathroom trips especially at night, bloated belly (about 5 extra pounds), sleep disturbances, feeling hot/flushed, and downright cranky. Oh my favorite was eating like a lumber jack all the time. The tough part was when I had to stop taking the progesterone and it delayed AF.

Just try to relax and keep yourself busy and your mind occupied. Think about options if this cycle doesn't work out as planned.

Good luck and here's to a successful first IUI.

Well, it didn't work this cycle. I wished someone had mentioned the real side effects of progesterone. That is why I asked my RE what they were. Such false hope. Moe, I can't believe the worse is yet to come now that I am going to stop taking it. Is AF going to come with a vengeance? I have to take about 8 (500mg) Advils just to dull the pain in the months when she is especially witchy.

I firmly believe that every month my body punishes me for not giving it the chance to get preggers. So now, that I have given it the chance, it didn't take it.

I already made plans for the next 3 IUIs. I'm going to do one each month for the next three months. Of course, if it works - then I just have to keep them in storage. This cycle was totally natural. Next cycle(s) I am going all out with monitoring and meds.

I haven't been able to properly exercise in the past two weeks, so Insanity Workout, here I come!

For consolation I am going to spend the evening with my Beagle puppy and tiramisu.

Thanks ladies. I will keep you updated.
