Single, 40 and Pregnant!!

ButterflyButterfly Member Member
Well I couldn' t be more excited! I took an HPT yesterday morning and it was positive! I burst into tears. I was scheduled yesterday to get my blood drawn for HCG. So i went to go do that, and like last time, the tech told me that I should hear something that afternoon. I went to go run another errand and decided to get another pregnancy test (digital this time). I couldn't wait to get home to pee again. I got home and the HPT said "pregnant"!

I am pregnant on the second try from 2754. Well, now that I know my body is capable of achieving a pregnancy (my very first pregnancy), now it's a matter of my baby bean sticking.

Wow. So let me tell you about my symptoms of early pregnancy. The week I had my IUI (saturday) my bubbies began to get sore. Just like after my first IUI last month, they continued to be sore for a number of days. During my TWW, i almost gave up hope because I didnt think I would get pregnant. So i just expected my period. But these mild cramps. Weird. Like I said, I never get cramps before my period. And they felt different. And still do. Not period-like cramps. My period cramps are usually generalized and achy feeling. Now my pregnancy cramps are more localized and somewhat sharp, but not unbearable. I sensed that something was going on but did not want to get my hopes up.

Last wednesday I had eaten a late dinner, about 10pm or so. And I drank some apple juice about 12am. Went and fell asleep. I woke not too long after and was nauseaus. I thought it would go away since I had experienced slight nausea a couple days before. But I was so nauseated I could hardly get comfortable in my bed and get back to sleep. i thought maybe it was the combination of applejuice and food i had eaten hours earlier that made me sick to my stomach.

Everyday, i checked my panties and there was some CM. On Friday I was was really curious and took an HPT in the mid afternoon. (i know tests tell you to test first morn urine). It was negative. Not even a faint vertical line. So at that point I became somewhat discouraged and concluded that maybe it wasnt meant to be. I figured one advantage though was that I was going to take a break and use my money for IVF and not even wast time with IUI next time. Because i didnt get preggo with my first IUI.

Sunday, I felt bad and was supposed to go to a friend's baby's first uear birthday party. I noticed my whole back was achy and I just felt yucky. Like I was getting the flu. I had actually been administered a flu shot that thursday which i get every year. In fact this time when getting my flu shot, i focused on the "pregnant women" info in the flu vaccine pamphlet. I researched reactions to flu vaccine. I decided to take my temp. I had a low-grade fever. 99.5-99.7. so then i researched temp change and pregnancy. I did not find a satisfactory answer regarding that.

Still puzzled somewhat about my symptoms, i too realized that it was CD 26 and i still hadnt had AF yet. I figured, like last month, i would prob have AF on CD 27 or even 28 (but my cycles are usually only 23-25 days). but the thing about it, i didnt feel nor was i bloated. im always bloated like a big fat balloon before AF. So i decided CD 28 to take HPT. and what a surprise. yesterday my dr called and told me she had good news and that I was pregnant. I was in the middle of something when she called and hated to but I had to cut it short. but i was so happy to hear from her ( she will call tomorrow).

So now here goes my continued journey as a single mother.

I just want to wish those of you who are TTC the best and much sticky dust.

Hello ladies. So, I know that it has been awhile since I last posted. The reason being is because I had a miscarriage in October. Fortunately it was not ectopic. My HCG and progesterone levels did not rise (double) like they were supposed to. My first HCG level was 54 and prog was 18, which was good. But, two days later, my HCG only went up to 60 and progesterone at 15. The levels continued to decline until down to 0. I was not that far along, but it was still hard to know that, while being pregnant, miscarriage was inevitable. But the miscarriage process did not last long, although the cramps were horrible. I was relieved that it was over so that I could try again.

I am happy to say that on my fourth try again in December, with same donor 2754, I got pregnant and still pregnant, with the help of Femara, instead of Clomid. My levels are doing great so far. This time My first level HCG was 77 and progesterone was 55.2. Today my doctor called and gave me some more good news. My HCG level today is 169 and progesterone 55.

I have to say that during my TWW this time, i had some very very mild cramps and they definately felt more like period cramps than before. When I got pregnant in Sept, the cramps were what seemed to be, not really sharp, but more localized. I cant explain it. So maybe that was a bad sign I was going to miscarry.

My doctor decided to put me on Femara this time instead of Clomid, because of the fact that the Clomid thinned my uterine lining. That possibly caused me to miscarry too. I remember someone told me on my post that I may want to try something else besides Clomid. Well I guess you were right. :)

I am keeping my fingers crossed. And still wish the best of luck to all of you. Much baby dust to you all and happy new year.

Congrats! and I have been reading the threads and it looks like this is a healthy pregnancy. I just hear about so many miscarriages for us older gals and I had one at 39 and I am not 40 and really frustrated with this process. Two out of my 3 IUIs have resulted in BFP but no live birth. I am on to IUI #4 in a couple of weeks, new RE has put me on Chlomid and a low dose of FSH injectables. My last IUI was converted to IUI due to low response and that ended up in a BFP but m/c at 7 wks. I have vowed to not to IVF again- I dont have any fertility coverage and this has been stressful paying for treatment. Plus IVF will not increase my egg quality and I dont want to go thru a retrieval, and not have much to work with. I tend to think older eggs fertilize better inside the body. I am single too, been trying for over two years and I gave up dating all together. i wish I had started this process 5 yrs ago as I would probably have a child by now but I was not financially stable and was struggling too much. Now I am doing pretty good money wise and I am completely ready for motherhood and not scared to do it. My FSH is getting a bit higher but it did go down this last test, everything else is pretty normal, AFC is low now, maybe 7 or 8 total but I know of lots of women who have conceived with far worst nmbers than mine. I tell women who are 40 or over that want to start conceiving, to see an RE first and get a range of tests done. But don't take everything they say as the holy grail. Lots of doctors don't like older gals conceiving and I know several women around 40 who managed to conceive despite bad news from their doctor. I have chosen donor 2941... he is getting low on vials and I just bought one as that is all I can afford. If this does not work, I may be on to donor embryo through a program in California but it depends how well I respond this time. I go for my first ovarian scan on Fri to see how many follicles I am forming. I have been on numerous supplements, including PABA, for the last two years so I credit those for a couple of the BFP's. Well good luck to everyone!

    Small Gestational Sac

Im really curious if any of you have had issues with your gestational sac during early pregnancy, and what the outcome was. Did you end up having a healthy baby to term??

So I went in for my first sonogram on Monday. Mr doctor and I saw the baby, saw and heard the heart beat!!! beating at 115 (which my doc and I thought was sort of slow, crown to rump measuring 6.6mm, which she thought was small, for the gest period (6w4d). I also had a subchrionic bleed appear on the ultrasound, which looked to me to mimic the shape and size of the gestational sac. Doctor told me that it was gestational sac detachment, which possibly explained why my HCG was low. However I have had no cramping or bleeding/spotting. She said we wait and see and scheduled me for an ultrasound on friday.

On my second ultrasound (today Friday), the bleed looks to have disappeared, but she had a new concern because now the gestational sac is small. The baby is taking up the whole space. the baby has grown to the appropriate size (10.5) and hearbeat is at 133. I'm 7w4d today. I asked my doc if this was going to constrict or cramp the baby. She said no. I guess I dont understand that. She said again 50/50, nothing that we can do, doesnt know reason for small sac and that we still are going to wait and see again at my next US on wed, look for changes with the gestational sac, but that starting in my 8th-9week, the amniotic sac should start forming.

She also started me on progesterone suppositories last night because my prog went down to 10.

so now im scanning the internet about small gest sac and there is hardly any info on it. i guess i should stop fishing before i psych myself out. I'm trying to stay positive.

The good news is you have a heartbeat,,,, more than I ever had. I don't know what to say on the small gestational sac. This is so nerve wracking. I would maybe visit another fertility forum online and see if anyone experienced this. Keep us posted.
