Cyst formed where no follicle?

It has officially been a year since I started this journey. The crazy thing is out of those 12 cycles I have had 3 medicated cycles but only ONE IUI for various reasons. Anything that can go wrong has gone wrong. This cycle I went in for my baseline u/s and there is a 5cm cyst. They did bloodwork and found my hormone levels to be back down therefore the cyst is "non-hormonal". What I don't understand is that I did not have a follicle from that ovary my last cycle so how did that cyst get there? If it didn't come from a follicle then where did it come from? The doctors weren't at all concerned. They just said call back with your next period and made it sound like it should be gone next cycle. Has anyone else had cysts with no follicle? I'm so frustrated and confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand your frustration. I feel the same and I just started the journey.
Could it be that the doctors are not concerned because it will go away? Hopefully someone can shed some light.

Thanks Yania. I got to speak to the director Monday evening. She said its possible that a very small follicle that was there at ovulation can continue to grow after ovulation and that is how the cyst formed. She said it can be common for follicles to continue to grow on medicated cycles. So I don't need to worry about the cyst, just another month of waiting. I am so tired of the waiting. But one day it will be well worth the wait!!!

Hey Becky, how are things? Just checking in.

I am taking a break this cycle waiting for the progesterone to wear off. I will try again next cycle. Hopefully my body will figure out what we're doing.

Hi Yania, I'm hanging in there I guess. This has been a really long month/cycle for me. I feel like it's never ending. I hate all the waiting. I am due to get my period next Thursday and then hope for the best with my baseline u/s hopefully the following Monday. I pray that I have no more cysts and I can go forward with IUI number 2. Having "forum friends" like you helps so much get through the difficult times...and in my case waiting and waiting. It sounds like you are starting your wait for this cycle. I hope it goes much better/faster for you. When do you expect your next period?

Thanks for checking in with me!! Happy waiting...

I am hoping that my next cycle starts by mid-march. I hope all goes well for you. Soon it will all be worth it.

    Hi Becky,
I follow your updates on California Cyrobank forum. So I know you're doing great. I just did my day 8 ultrasound and my follicles are still pretty small so this looks like a long cycle.

I cannot wait for your good news. I hope this is your last 2ww. All the best!!
    Tamara.

    Hi Tamara,

I hope I'm doing good! I have 5 more days to wait which is killing me, but I'm so happy to have finally gotten to the 2ww. Are you taking any meds or are your follicles on their own? How about bloodwork? How does your estradiol levels look? Isn't it just one wait period to the next? You wait and wait for your period to come...then you wait and wait for your follicles to grow...then you have the BIG wait. I have never been driven so much by my calendar before this crazy year. I was nervous about this cycle since my follicles only grew to 15mm and 12mm but my doctor reassured my with my estradiol levels so good that there is a chance. I am feeling very positive right now but as these last few days go by it's hard to say how I'll be feeling. I just want it so badly I'm afraid I'm going to have myself convinced it worked and then be really disappointed if it didn't. But we'll deal with that on Tuesday if need be. I'd rather stay positive for now.

I hope the next few days go quickly for you also and your follicles cooperate and grow perfectly. Thanks for you thoughts! I'll keep you in my prayers. I hope to hear you're in your 2ww soon!!!

    Becky

    Hi Becky,
I read the posting and I am really sorry about the results. I read all the postings and there seems to be nothing we can do to make the results positive. We just have to be pregnant with the baby that is "ours".

Keep your head up. You're going to be pregnant with your baby.

I am in my 2ww. I am doing all the activities I am usually involved in to reduce the disappointment. I asked the doctor to reduce my progesterone dosage, so I have no symptoms.

    I'll keep you posted.

Hi Tamara. Thanks. You are completely right about waiting for "our" baby. My mom says the same thing all the time too. I'm figuring at this point I will run my funds dry and then end up pregnant with twins! And if that's God's plan then so be it, but if that's his plan I'd rather he give me those twins before I run out of money. I'm feeling pretty good right now. I had to get my temper tantrum out of my system before I could move on. I go in for my baseline u/s on Monday but I'm almost positive they will cancel this cycle due to cysts. I'll know for sure Monday. My plan is to just prepare for May (and hope the cysts are gone by then). In the meantime I need to pick a new donor since mine ran out of vials and is retired. I'm not sure where I want to get my next vial at this point. I don't know if I want to get it from California or Fairfax. I guess I'll discuss it with my re on Monday.

When did you start your 2ww? Did you just have your IUI on Friday? I wish you the best of luck! I will be anxiously awaiting to hear good news from you. I figure one of these times it will have to work for us. I will be in shock the day I actually pee on a stick and see 2 pink lines. It will feel so unreal. Good luck and keep me posted!!!!

Hopefully I have the first of good news for this month. I had my baseline u/s on Monday and shockingly I had NO cysts. Even my RE was shocked. So I started injections on Monday and go in for my first monitoring on Friday. I'll go in every morning until they trigger me. I'm hoping this is the one. I just need my follicles to cooperate this time around. I decided to go back to my original donor from Fairfax, 2993. I got pregnant with him the first time but miscarried. I'm hoping this time around everything will be perfect. I hope you are surviving your 2ww. I've been thinking about you.

    Hi Becky,
That's great news. I am so happy for you. He could be the sperm donor that was meant to be!!

I am doing well with my 2ww. I am planning a trip to Argentina at the end of April, so that has me excited. Please keep me posted, soon you'll be on your final 2ww. Praying for you.

I tested this morning 11dpi and got a negative. I felt frustrated and tired, but I guess I have to move on. I used progesterone, so my cycle will be late. I calculated to be able to do another cycle before my trip.

When is your next IUI? What's your magic number of negatives before you move to IVF?
  • blkern23blkern23 Member Member
Hi Tamara. I'm sorry you got a negative. Could it still be too early? I would think 11dpi may still be a little early. I've read a lot of people who got a positive at 11 but also many who didn't get a positive until 13 or 14dpi. Hopefully that's it, but I completely understand wanting to just know so you can prepare to move on to the next cycle.

I had my IUI this morning! I was shocked that things moved so quickly this time around. No cysts and my follicle grew fast this time. It's hard to believe that I'm already starting my next 2ww. I had a 19mm follicle on Friday so I triggered Friday evening.

I have only had 3 iui's at this point. My first one worked but ended in miscarriage. My second was negative. I'll let you know about the 3rd in 2 weeks. So even though it's been over a year for me it's only 3 iui's. I don't know how many I would try before IVF. My RE seems to think I won't need to go that route but who knows. How many tries have done so far? Was it 2 tries? I know you are doing monitoring. Have you been using meds? How many follicles have you gotten each try?

Keep me posted on things and I'll do the same!

    Hi Becky,
I have had two IUIs so far. I am going to use meds on my next cycle. Wow, 19mm is awesome. My follicles are naturally small. They do not grow past 16mm. I am hopeful with meds I will get a mature follicle.
I only get one mature follicle. I will be using clomid. I am excited to move to IUI #3 with meds.
My doctor thought I would have gotten pregnant with the first two. He was concerned about the size of my follicles, but I wanted to give the natural route a try.
I am so excited for you. It sounds like this one is it, Becky. Was your sample good? Mine was pretty sad. I am looking into changing donor and bank.

    Keep me posted.

How are you making out Tamara? I made it through the first week of my 2ww. I go in for bloodwork on April 22 but plan to do a home test on Friday (April 19). I have been a lot more relaxed through this whole cycle. I think it partly because I didn't have to wait so long between my cycles. But I'm hoping the 3rd time's a charm and I won't have to wait anymore. I'm getting a little anxious now.

How are you making out? Did you get your period on time and did you start the Clomid yet? Let me know how you're doing. I'm still praying for you.

I was waiting and waiting for my cycle to start, because of the progesterone. It finally did yesterday. I have my day 3 tomorrow and I start clomid. I am also starting acupuncture treatment tomorrow.

I have over a week before my IUI. I am starting to get stressed, so the acupuncture is necessary if only to relax and sleep at night.

Hope 3rd time is the charm for both of us. I'll be praying for you.

I got a positive this morning...12dpo. I can't believe it. I was so scared to even look at the test. I have waited impatiently the past couple of days and then it was time and I was so scared to look at it. I couldn't believe I saw 2 lines!! I go for bloodwork on Monday and then will go back Wednesday and hope for doubling this time around. I know after 2 miscarriages that it's not a sure thing yet but I am feeling very positive this time around. I never got a positive on any tests at home when I had my last miscarriage so this is a good sign that I have it by day 12.

I hope you have just as much luck this time around. How did your day 3 go? Did you start the clomid? I'd love to hear about your acupuncture. I hope it helps relax you. I know its nearly impossible to relax.

blkern23, happy to hear you have a bfp, we are thinking of using donor 2993. The donor we used for our first baby hit the max family units, we are bumped with that, but thinking we are going to go with 2993. i have seen a few others post they have had a bfp with 2993, we called and got the range 10-15 last week, so he has had at least 10 pregnancies in the last year. Best of luck!
  • yanla_tilyanla_til Senior Member Senior Member
Congratulations!! I am so happy for you. This is your baby. I feel so hopeful now. The last cycle everyone seem to have gotten BFN at Cal. Cyro. I hope you've started to move things in a positive direction for all of us.

I started my clomid at day three. I am going back tomorrow day 8. I was nervous that they were not monitoring me more closely for over-stimulation, now I am worried that it didn't work.

The acupuncture is great. I went in on Thursday with side effects from the Clomid and they work on it. I have not had any symptoms since.

    Keep me posted.

Misslissa, I thought once you had a baby from a donor you were allowed to continue to use him even after he reaches his max family unit? I can't believe 2993 has 10-15 pregnancies. I didn't realize it was so many. I only know of one person who is pregnant. And I guess I am. I am still in shock. After over a year it almost seemed like I'd never get out of the loop I was stuck in.

Tamara, I really hope this is the start of lots of BFP's. I know last month was terrible at Cal. I hope the 3rd times a charm for you this time around too. Good luck with your monitoring. It sounds like the acupuncture is helping with symptoms and hopefully relaxing. I'll be anxious to hear how your monitoring goes this week. Will you go in everyday? I started monitoring on day 9 most cycles (I insisted on day 8 for one cycle) but then I went in everyday for u/s and bloodwork until they triggered. But that was with injections and they would change my dosage each day as needed depending what the u/s and bloodwork showed. So maybe they don't need to do that with Clomid.

Good luck this week Tamara and Welcome Misslissa. Let us know what you decide. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

    Becky

    Hi Becky,
They cancelled this cycle. The clomid was thinning my lining. I definitely had mature eggs with it, but they felt my lining was too thin.

I have to site out two cycles. My doctor will change my meds. It's a long wait, but I am going to hang in there.

Keep me posted on your pregnancy.
  • blkern23blkern23 Member Member
Oh, Tamara, I'm so sorry. I know all too well how disappointing that is. I had them cancel one for me after I already started my injections. It's very disappointing and feels like such a long wait. I'm glad you are hanging in there. As difficult as it is, I always kept going back to the fact that they want everything to be perfect so I have the best chance once I actually try. What meds are they going to try next? Will you be going to injections?

I went for bloodwork today and my HcG was 290 which they said is excellent. I go back Wednesday to be sure it's doubling. I will be nervous since it didn't double last time but it's much higher than last time. I am anxious but feeling pretty positive still.

I will keep you in my prayers Tamara for these next 2 cycles to go quickly for you. Keep hanging in there. I understand very well how frustrating it is. I am always here if you need to talk/vent.
