2nd IUI. Needing support & positivity...

Hi everyone.

I've been lurking around the forum for a couple of months, but this is my first time to post. My name is Sara. I guess what I'm looking for is shared experiences, support, etc. I've been a little down lately. I let my brain, internet research, and statistics get the best of me, and it makes me wonder what my chances of conceiving and having my own baby actually are. Sometimes, the possibility seems so far out of reach.

Anyway, I will be undergoing my second IUI this month. Last month's was unfortunately unsuccessful (with donor 4253.) I am taking Femara and using the Ovidrel trigger shot. At this point, I don't have any known fertility issues. My husband and I chose this route because he had a vasectomy many, many years ago, and we both felt like this would be the best option for us financially. He's been very supportive, and I am thankful for that. We are not wealthy, and I think that puts more pressure on the whole process. I keep reading about women who have undergone 4-7 (or more) IUI's, some with success and some without. I can't imagine, nor am I in a position to spend that much money at this time. It's just frustrating because I feel like if it doesn't happen during this next cycle, I will be waiting a long time to try again, and I'm not getting any younger.

I'm considering switching donors this time. I fell in love with donor 4253's childhood photo, and he has many of my husband's features. I also chose him because he has a negative blood type (so do I), but he doesn't have any reported pregnancies. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything negative, but I think I'd like to try a donor who does. What are your thoughts? My next choice is Donor 2467.

Any feedback or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I would love to hear from you! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

May the odds be in your favor,
Sara :)

I wish I could tell you it will work this time. If it was just about timing we all would have gotten pregnant the first time. I will say that staying positive and telling yourself that it will work goes a looong way. Sometimes it does take 4-6 tries before it works. It can work though have faith. I have one ovary and a low ovarian reserve and got pregnant on my 4th iui. I consider myself very lucky! When I started this process I had no know fertility issues other than 1 ovary. I had all the testing and everything looked good. After starting the injectibles we found out about the low ovarian reserve.
I went to acupuncture to help the process and followed a strict diet to help get my system back in line. Every tme I had an iui I would spend the next tww looking at my stomach and seeing myself pregnant. i would think for the whole tww that it was successful. Positive thoughts and prayers got me through the process. I am by no means wealthy either. I would sacrifice in other areas to pay for this.

I hope this helps. I know you probably want a guarantee but I can't give that to you. We have the same chance of getting pregnant that a couple dtd the deed does. It is about a 25% chance each month. A couple trying on their own can take 4-6 months before it works. It is the same for us. I know you would think the chances would be greater with all the timing involved but there is a little magic and a higher power at work as well.

I hope you get that bfp soon! Baby dust!

Hi Sara. I wish you all the luck. I know how difficult it is with all the waiting better than most. I started this journey a year ago...12 cycles. Out of those 12 cycles 11 of them were cancelled for one reason or another. I had my first IUI in November and got pregnant but ended in a miscarriage. I am still waiting for my 2nd IUI to happen. I have had several more cancelled cycles since then. I thought I'd be having my 2nd IUI this coming week. I am taking Follistim and then a trigger but now my follicles aren't growing. I'm afraid when I get my call this afternoon about my bloodwork that they will cancel this cycle also. I would give anything to be in my 2ww. I can't even get to that point. Try to stay positive and be glad you can have the IUI done. You will get your BFP one of these times. Just be patient and when the time is right and it's the right baby it will happen for you. Good luck!!!

    Hey there!

Thank you for the well wishes! Since my last post, I haven't had another IUI. Took some time off to recuperate emotionally and to try and pay my credit card down some. I think I'm ready to try again. Did you end up using Donor 4253? If so, how did it go? I'd love to hear about it, if you're willing to share. He's still my favorite! Love those blue eyes! :)

    Take care,
    Sara
