Hey ladies, just had a bad experience. I ran out of my perfect guy on here, but found someone very similar to him on California Cryobank's website. After I ordered, trying to make my cycle, I noticed that they do not test for HPV because the "test was inaccurate" and the FDA does not require them to do it. Of course this made me think that F. gives you a false sense of security, so I started to do my own research through peer-reviewed journals. The test for HPV, an STD that causes cervical cancer, is very accurate and has been used in research and detection for over a decade. I contacted CC with my concerns, and they said that the test can only be preformed through a man's urethra, an "invasive" procedure. Again, this is inaccurate as PCR testing can be preformed on cryosamples-the DNA for HPV can be found on the sperm themselves. One Danish study found in screened donors with clean histories and no symptoms a prevalence of 16% for HPV (that's right, about the same chance as getting pregnant). The more I read, the more uncomfortable I became with using these samples. I sat down with a lab tech at the fertility clinic, who confirmed everything I'd read, and who encouraged me to use Fairfax only. Ultimately I had the samples destroyed. This was not a decision I made lightly, as it represents a substantial out-of-pocket expense and wasted cycle, but as a future single mother to be I know my health is just as important as my baby's.
