Follicles TOO big???

highlyfavoredhighlyfavored Junior Member Junior Member
Here's my story

I'm 37yo I have had 2 m/c and only have my right fallopian tube. I've waited 10yrs to actively attempt to get pregnant again. My doctor ran tests and I went in for an U/S my lining was only 1.1mm thick or should I say thin and I had 3 small follies(8.5, 9.0, 9.5) in my good tube. So she put me on clomid. I went in this morning and now my lining is 8.8mm and I have 2 follies(27.1, 32.3) on the good side. My doctor says these are TOO BIG!!! I was only on 50mg of clomid. She says that we'll have to cut the pills in half next month to 25mg so we won't get anymore JUMBO follicles.

Well me being me I have to ask has anyone else encountered this and if so did you still want to attempt to get preggo with JUMBO follies or be obedient and wait until the next time. What would happen or is it even possible to get preggers with follicles of this size? I know I need to be patient but when I found out that I actually produced follicles on my right I was ecstatic now I'm sitting here with my lip hanging to the ground because next month they might decide to show up on the left and then they won't do any good.

Just asking, knowing I'll have to wait and see. That's what this whole process is about, "being patient".
BTW, I'm debating on IUI or just having sex to get pregnant. And that's a whole other story. LAWD have mercy!!!

Thanks for reading,

    Hi there,

In answer to your question I took 50mg of clomid for 4days and at the end I only had one follicle of 28.5! The IUI went ahead anyway and I discovered that I was pregnant 2 weeks later. Im now 7wks pregnant and praying that I dont miscarry this one as I did with the previous IUI. Im a little confused then as to why your doctor thinks 27 and 32 is too big?? Im afraid I dont know too much about this, but I do know it wasnt a problem for me. Hope this helps...

Thanks Esther I pray all goes well with you and your baby. I guess because they want them to be 20 - 22mm and it's cycle day 13 for me. So maybe she's concerned that by the time I ovulated that they would be even bigger. I really don't know but I think I want a second opinion before my window closes for this month. I also don't know if something could be "genetically" wrong with follicles that are large...Who knows because I really don't know what to do at this point.

Those are huge follies! I know with IVF those would be too big and they would not even try to fertilize them. I think the issue is when they get that big they are considered over mature and the egg quality is compromised and usually ends in MC. As a person who has been through a miscarriage I would not want to even wish that on my worst enemy. It was more emotionally painful than physically painful. There is a lady on this board named Robin who also only had one side working in her favor but she has a son who is about to turn one. Her story is on these boards and I would recommend reading it. I believe patience and perserverance were the two keys to her success. This is a journey and we all want it to happen right now but you will learn there is always a wait for something (AF, TWW, etc.). I would wait if I were you but it's clearly your choice just make sure you have all the info you need to make a sound decision

Thanks latebloomer, I spoke with my doctor today for clarification and she said that when they are that size they are cysts and that well just reduce the clomid next month. So at least we know that the clomid works for me:p I knew this process was going to test my willingness to be patient. And in order not to go thru another m/c I will definitely learn more patience. So I'm gonna chill and wait for AF so we can do this again.

You were absolutely right highlyfavored! I miscarried my baby two weeks after I wrote to you. It seems the egg quality was compromised after all. I feel absolutely distraught now after two miscarriages this year. I am glad you waited. I wish you the very best for the rest of your journey. X

So sorry to hear that Esther. I have been there and know the feeling. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The 2 times I got pregnant before were natural and not planned. I just started this journey in April of this year. I had my 1st IUI this past Saturday. I will test next Friday. I hope all goes well for the both of us. Are you gonna try again?

    God Bless!!!

    Hi there highlyfavored!
Im sorry, it was rude of me not to answer your post. I kept away from this message board for a few weeks whilst I recovered from the miscarriage. Im back on track now but still not sure whether to continue or not. I suppose I should be grateful that I can get pregnant.
How about you?? You were on the 2ww last time I heard from you. I really, really hope and pray that it works for you at least. God bless you too!

    Hi Esther,

That's not a problem. I totally understand. My 1st IUI was unsuccessful. I believe I was inseminated a couple of days too early. Currently on my 4th day of 25mg of clomid. Gonna try again using a trigger shot since it looks like my days will fall on the weekend. This time my doctor won't be available on Saturday but she is available on Sunday. So I'm thinking of using an OPK and possibly triggering anywhere from Saturday to Sunday. Depending on which day then the next IUI would be either Sunday or Monday. Hopefully this will be the month for me.

Still wishing you Blessings and Baby Dust!!!!
