Hello all! My partner and I will be doing our first insemination in 1 month and we are very excited and nervous. We have debated for a few months on doing an IUI with our doctor or doing at home insemination. I'm hoping to find others that have tried one or the other and their success. If you used the at home insemination did you use a kit? Did your doctor provide you will the tools you needed? We finally selected a donor today and we have just about 2 weeks to make our decision final on insemination options. This is our first try at something like this.

We also saw that doctors were doing HSG tests prior. Our doctor hasn't suggested anything in addition to tracking ovulation and prenatal. Is this common practice?

I guess we are wanting to do this right and to halt delay any further than it has been with our insurance approvals. Any and all advise is welcome!

Hi! We considered inseminating at home, but decided to go to our doctor's office instead. Because of the financial investment and because my partner was already 35, we wanted to make the chances of pregnancy as high as possible. We made the right decision for us because my partner got pregnant on the 2nd try! We used our regular OB/GYN, and she tested Shan's hormones because she was 35, but other than that, she just told us to track our ovulation using a LH surge predictor and to call her as soon as we got a positive reading. We kept reading about women taking hormones, having ultra sounds, etc. and wondered if our dr was not aggressive enough, but we figured we'd try a couple of times the way she suggested. We did track basil body temp and mucous just for the heck of it, but when it came down to it, all we needed was our LH pee stick.

Our main concern about doing it at the office was that we wanted it to be a special, intimate moment. The first time, I stood next to the dr and watched her do the procedure because I was fascinated with the process, and Shannon stared at the white ceiling tiles. The second time, though, I stood at Shannon's side and we held hands and looked at each other. I'd like to think that it was that eye connection that made it work the 2nd time!
