When did everyone consider IVF? If so, can you tell your story?

Thank u for your response Lauras! I have always thought by switching donors that it will happen. I also believe that unmedicated IUIs in your 30s is just a waste of time! Well I have had 2 IUIs so far. I was put on femara the first round. I have also tested for my LH surge at home & get a positive each time. I went in the following month for my 2nd IUI & told my doctor that I wanted the ovidrel shot and he agreed. After the surge I called the office and went in for the shot. 29 hours later went in for the IUI procedure which was unsuccessful. I am 39 with no medical problems, have normal periods monthly, ovulate always on 13th day and tubes are open as well. I am just wondering if I should skip the emotional torture of the IUI procedures & go directly to IVF. You are lucky being able to get on your partner's insurance. What state do you live in?

I think if I could go back in time, I would have skipped to IVF quicker, but I needed to exhaust the IUI option first - in my mind that was #5. since I last posted I had a baseline ultrasound to begin the IVF process and was told I developed a large cyst on my left ovary so had to postpone. more waiting and hoping it goes away. now I think that we should have stopped after #4 it would have been better, but that's just hindsight. I needed to do 5 before I considered IVF. anyway overstimulation is a concern for everyone using meds though so I would set a limit for yourself. we live in PA, but my partner works in NY at a large media company. not sure if it is NY state law or just her company that allows for fertility coverage. but I am grateful.

Hello Lauras! Again thank you for your input. I agree about giving your body a break from the medications. My last IUI was months ago and my partner & have discussed to do 2 more IUIs then go to IVF. My doctor also said to try a couple more times (with medications) since financially we can only afford this way right now. Sorry to hear about the large cyst! How long do you have to wait until you start the process of IVF?

Hi Yania! Thank you for writing. I wish I could go right to IVF but can only manage financially with IUIs. I know my age is a major factor and my doctor said they don't like to treat patients after 40. I guess I have one year to go to make it happen but I will be trying 2 more IUIs. I will keep everyone posted in the future and outcome. You said you have done two unmedicated cycles but can you tell me about the 3rd IUI and the experience? meds? trigger shot? timing?

hi amy, my cyst went away so we can move on to IVF! I started on the pill last week to level out. The stimulation meds have been ordered and I should start them next week. I'm sure there will be some other type of curveball, but taking it one day at a time. what's going on with you?

hello Lauras, I am glad to hear your cyst is gone! Now what type of meds are you going to take prior to the IVF? As for me I have met with my doctor and she is going to do a FSH test at the end of the month. I will get the results then try for another IUI. I am just hoping that I am still fertile!

hi amy, I am taking menopur and gonal f. and just started ganirellix last night as well. I only have 7-8 follicles, which isn't that many for IVF, but we are moving forward with the cycle and hoping we have at least one to transfer back. though two would be great! during my IUI cycles with clomid I had 3-6 follicles so I am sad that with the amount of injectibles i am using I don't have more, but I feel like you just never know what's going to happen. good luck to you!

Hi laura! What is the standard follicles needed for the IVF because 7 to 8 seems reasonable. I really hope that you have a favorable transfer and all goes well. Keep in touch! I wish you success :)
