My favorite donor has no reported pregnancies...do I dare?

danascullydanascully Junior Member Junior Member
Donor 2890 is my favorite donor, but he has been a donor since December 2010 and has no reported pregnancies. I don't know what to do! I don't have the money for a lot of cycles - 3 is pushing it for me. So I really want to pick the right donor. I know someone has to be the first, but the almost-three years thing bothers me. Anyone have any sage advice?

might want to look at other donors. that's a lot of investment and time on your part. this stuff is hard enough to go through let alone having your dreams go down the drain. but in the end its up to you. maybe its as simple as no one has ordered a vial from him?? idk... if it were up to me I wouldn't. good luck out there.

Personally it wouldn't scare me away from trying. At least one month with him, especially if he were my favorite. They go through a pretty intense process to pick their donors and I feel like I can trust that each one has enough quality swimmers to get the job done.

I'm in the same boat. After 3 failed iui attempts, I have to pick a new donor. Am liking 4255, but he has no pregnancies reported either. Have no idea how long he's been active, how do you tell that? I think I'm going to give it a shot, at least once.

I chatted with an employee and they told me when he was first logged in. they won't tell you how many vials have sold, though.

Maybe you've already decided and I am weighing in late but I think you should go for it! Maybe he's just not a popular choice for one reason or another and no one has tried him. Maybe the people who have tried couldn't get pregnant but it had nothing to do with the quality of his contribution. Most likely is that maybe there are people who didn't report pregnancies like we are supposed to. There are so many different scenarios that I could come up with as explanations. I think I would be nervous too, but I think it's a worthwhile risk...go for it!

My donor, 4209, had no reported pregnancies when I chose him. My daughter is now almost 8 months old and the most darling, precious, gift ever. If you feel in your heart that he is the right donor, it's worth a try

Just as closure on this thread, I opted to go with a different donor (4281) and got a BFP on the first try! It's early (5 weeks) but so far, so good!

We ended up using 2890 and have a beautiful baby boy! One reported pregnancy here :)
