Invasive dental work in IVF cycle...

Hi ladies. Never posted before, hope I'm doing this right...

I'm just finishing up the BCP before I start stimming for my FIRST and ONLY IVF, which I will be paying for out of pocket.

Last year I had a dental surgery called an "Apico". Basically, it involved removing the roots from an old root canal that became infected, while leaving the crown in place. Unfortunately, I've started noticing signs that the surgery did not work as intended. I have an abscess forming in my gum line, just as I did prior to the surgery. It does not hurt, since the roots are removed, but I know that it's a sign of a brewing infection.

I have read that oral bacteria can be detrimental not only to conception but also is associated with increased risk of miscarriage.

If you were me, would you get the tooth pulled/worked on while in the process of stimming/retrieval/transfer? It is my hope that I can take care of it before retrieval, currently scheduled for Oct. 31, or at the very latest, the time we transfer embies, currently scheduled for Nov. 5th.

OR, would you wait? I don't want to cause any undue stress during this very stressful time, but I also want to do whatever will better my chances of success.

Has anyone had invasive dental work while in the midst of an IVF cycle? Or in the 2WW? Stories? Advice?

I would check both with your dentist and your RE but I would try and have it done before retrieval and if it can't be done by then then I'd try to have it done before transfer. You will have enough to worry about between the retrieval and transfer; and after the transfer you will analyze every twinge, tickle, symptom, etc so you won't want to worry about if you'd done something wrong to affect your outcome. Normally once you do retrieval you will be on antibiotics for 7-10 days though

I'm a dental hygienist. It is my opinion that it would be best to have the tooth out before having your IVF. You want to have all the infection out if your body before then. If antibiotics are needed I would want to take them before as well. But of course check with your docs first :). Good luck!

Thanks guys. I have a repeat Apicoectomy scheduled for this Wednesday. I'll be on day 2 of stims. I'm glad I'm taking care of it. Thanks for your input... :)

In this case you should get extracted your teeth or it can cause great harm. I want to get root canal done from famous Torrance dentist as he is famous for painless surgery. My mom recommended him to me. She is also visiting him for the dental issues.
