young first time iui/ici questions

My wife (25) and I (23) are trying to have a baby at the beginning of next year so I've been doing a lot of research and came across the blog. I would be the carrier and my doctor says that I'm young and healthy so pregnancy shouldn't be an issue.
1. How old were you when you started & successfully conceived?
2. Did you do at home IUI/ICI or through a medical facility?
3. If at home, what method/tools did you use?
4. If at a medical facility, what were the cost associated and how many visits over the time span?
5. Did you track ovulation, if so, with what method?
6. How did you select sperm (known or donor)?
I've just had a hard time finding out information for someone who's young without fertility issues trying to conceive "unnaturally" so please don't skip on the details! Thank you!

1. 24 years old
2. IUI through medical facility
3.N/A
4. Cost of procedure $200 not including sperm vials.
5. Yes... It's funny because we weren't expecting to ovulate until later in the week and the day it came back positive my wife called me at school and asked me the results. I had forgotten to take it, and when I did it showed that I was ovulating. I used Clear Blue ovulation kit but since I didn't believe it we went and bought the Clear Blue digital ovulation kit and the smiley face came up indicating it was time! Happiest moment of my wife's life you would've thought we was pregnant then lol!
6. Selecting the sperm donor was the hardest part but after eliminating certain characteristics and checking out interest as well as what we'd want our child to look like helped a bunch! Looking for IUI donors and knowing our CMV status helped a lot as we'll.
2. IUI at a medical facility
3. N/A
4. We had to pay for different visits-a ultra sound to make sure I could get pregnant, a visit with a psychiatrist and then to check the size of my egg and to do the IUI. I think the IUI was about $525? It was awhile ago..
5. Yes with these test strips http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/pacof3ovtess.html
6. Donor. We used one that looked like both of us and liked the same things as us. I carried first and she will carry next.
We have a healthy baby girl that is almost 11 months old. We got pregnant on the first time, and they said I shouldnt have problems down the road-I have a healthy system
32- worked on the third month of trying for kid #1.
I'm currently 34 and we are on our fourth month of trying for a sibling.
2. Did you do at home IUI/ICI or through a medical facility?
IUI at Shady Grove
3. If at home, what method/tools did you use?
N/a
4. If at a medical facility, what were the cost associated and how many visits over the time span?
$295 each natural cycle IUI- two IUI's back to back per cycle. My insurance covered the bloodwork and HSG's.
This round we have opted for them to monitor us with ultrasounds and bloodwork- the cost is $1600 per cycle out of pocket.
5. Did you track ovulation, if so, with what method?
Yes- using the Clearblue easy fertility monitor with baby #1. Currently paying the money to be monitored with SG.
6. How did you select sperm (known or donor)? Once I knew my CMV status was negative, that narrowed down the donors. I also have some other medical issues that limited the type of donor we could have, so there weren't too many options. We honestly didn't care what the donor looked like (didn't even bother to download the photos until after I was 5 months along). We actually used three different donors (one each month) the first time and opted not to "stock up" until recently when we realized we wanted a second kid (if possible) by the same donor (if possible).

Best of luck to you. I highly recommend starting to track ovulation about two to three months before you start TTC. Baby dust!
Hi Marthur, I am so sorry for you losses. You are strong to keep going after your dream, and i sure hope you have your child soon! this was my only child. It took some adjusting - and as a single mom, i worried that I would end up with a second child who was a non sleeper... or that given my age, my chances for downs were elevated... and while i would be okay wiht that... i would have been like 44/45... so, ultimately, if i had a downs child, my healthy son would have to eventually be responsible for that child. I just didn't think it was fair to risk doing that to my son, so i stopped after my son.
My brother in law's mom had the same thing happen - 8 weeks and baby stopped growing. She was 19. her next two kids - my BIL and his sister - were just fine. I don't know if my age was why the first one didn't grow. I did acupuncture after that though... she swore it helped my blood flow and would help me conceive and baby be healthy.
I used the same donor. By the way - 2 of my high school friends also were having babies via IUI as i was. One using her husband's sperm - and she got pregant and had healthy kids the two times she tired IUI. The other used donor sperm and got pregnant on her 3rd try. Her daughter just turned 4.
I know fertility docs deal with infertility and so naturally they tend to be negative... but... my experience was very different... i sure wish you the best of luck!!!
