Hello! I hope everyone is doing FANTASTIC!

I'm new, and I have a few questions.

1. What is a trigger?! I've attempted to find it but then I get side tracked with finding out another piece of information and forget!
2. Is it common for people to try a cycle or two UNmedicated before going the medication route?
3. If I felt I wanted to try medicated right off the bat, is that an option?
4. Does anyone know of any ACTIVE forums that deal with Donor sperm?

This one seems nice, just not so active.

Thanks in advance!

a trigger shot is hcg and is given to you to release the follicle. In regards to unmedicated or medicated it depends on your doctor. some women have done unmedicated. It also depends on your age. I am older was 38 when I conceived and did medicated right off the bat.....it was my decision. I quickly moved to injections again my decision completely supported by my doc.

active forums......this one was very active when I was ttc. If a group of you on here start to talk and support each other it could be active again. This was once a lifeline for a group of us ttc. most of us all have kids now and are in touch via email. hopefully you can find the support on here that I once did!

come on ladies stop lurking and start posting to help each other out!

    1. What is a trigger?! I've attempted to find it but then I get side tracked with finding out another piece of information and forget!

I know Robin answered this. It is usually used in medicated cycles

    2. Is it common for people to try a cycle or two UNmedicated before going the medication route?

I was 38 when I started. I wish I had skipped unmedicated. I actually did 4. I did get pregnant on the 4th but lost the pregnancy at 8 weeks. I then did several more IUIs before moving onto 2 IVF rounds before finally having my darling daughter (who I call my lucky 13 since it was that many rounds total!!). She was born when I was 41

    3. If I felt I wanted to try medicated right off the bat, is that an option?

Absolutely - but talk to your doctor - depends on your age and your own personal history

    4. Does anyone know of any ACTIVE forums that deal with Donor sperm?

Robin and I were trying to conceive at the same time and we are both still in touch with a great group of us who all conceived within a year of each other.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Hey
I tried an unmedicated cycle for my first IUI. and After I have done some research on it I feel like that was such a waste of time and money!! My advice go straight to medicated!!! It helps with the whole timing process! Ive had a total of 5 IUI's done and nothing yet... with no known infertility problems. Good Luck!! And feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!

    Thank you for the replies.

I was told cycle one would be unmedicated fur to my age (26) and if it didn't work we'd go from there!

    I am so nervous

My partner carried our first, at 28 yrs old and got pregnant on her first medicated try. Here we are almost 5 years later, trying again with me trying to get pregnant using the same donor. We switched fertility clinics, and our Dr. suggested we do 3 unmedicated tries and if we were not successful that we would move on to medicated. He said for my partner at 28, he though that it was unnecessary that she did the medicated. Either way, it worked for her the first try.

I elected not to do the HSG test off the bat, did our first unmedicated IUI that did not result in a pregnancy. The following month, I tested high for ovulation but never hit peak so we missed last month. Due to insurance, I elected to go ahead and do the HSG test last week. Should have been doing our second IUI here in a few days. However, the HSG showed some sort of tubal occlusion so we will miss this month as well because our primary RE is out until Jan 6th.

It will interesting to find out if he wants to move me to medicated now or how we will proceed from here. I am on pins and needles waiting for him to get back.

Best of luck JKoubik!!! It's different for everyone, find what works for you and go with it! :)

It depends if you are ovulating. I had regular cycles but wasn't ovulating. Even though my ovulation test (the ones you buy at store) said I was. Once I found that out after one try unmediated, I began medicated IUIs. Got pregnant but miscarried. Almost a year later I found out my thyroid wasn't producing like it should. I think this was my problem (causing me not to ovulate and causing the miscarriage). I then tried a couple times without the medication after having a tubal. The only issues I had on the meds were occasional cysts. We are about to start the IVF process. The seven times we tried + the 2 years has been an emotional roller coaster. We hope we will have better chances with IVF. Good luck and let me know if I can help with any other questions.

With medicated vs unmedicated, at the age of 26 with no medical problems of your own I'd stick with more than one round of unmedicated. Personally I wouldn't want to pay the additional costs and put in all the additional time and energy if it is not unnecessary. I had my one iui at the age of 26 unmedicated and was successful with a back to back try (two iuis in one cycle). Now here I am up at 3am nursing my sweet two-month old baby boy. Good luck! I hope everything goes smoothly for you!!
