IUI-first time w/ Same sex partner

vmasterson91vmasterson91 Junior Member Junior Member
Hello, All! Hoping this gets some responses from this, so here it goes.

We're coming up on our first time trying the IUI next month and I'm super nervous. I'm 22 with no real health issues and I'll be the carrier. We've purchased one vial of sperm and are just waiting on the right time to place the order. I would love to hear some stories of how your IUI's went, how many tries it took and if the medicine they prescribe to help Ovulation made your process a little easier. My RE wants to prescribe Letrazole because it has a lesser chance of multiples.

I'm just really scared I'm gonna get the timing off. With tracking my temp and using the OPK's. What a process.

Here's Hoping!

    Hi there,

We did IUI and I got pregnant on the first try! I was 28 and we didn't use any medicine. They said if the first time didn't work, we would try Clomid on the next cycle. We have a happy almost one year old baby girl. Good luck, its so worth all the tracking and doctor visits, ect.

I have no health issues, my husband and I went this route because he doesn't have any sperm. I got pregnant on my first try (I was 26) no medication. One iui done on the day of my positive opk and another iui the day after my positive okp. Our baby boy is 2 months old, happy and healthy!

Hi! My partner and I are also trying to conceive through IUI. We went through one round in October, didn't work that time. Not really sure why, but timing and other factors have delayed us trying again until this month. It should fall next week, and we'll go for our second try. I'm 28 and my partner is 37, I'm going to be the one carrying. We just thought maybe it was best for me to try considering her age. She's healthy, we just know that risks rise the older you get. I'm taking clomid and have been for several months. Mainly just to get ovulation timing down so it's a little more predictable when I will ovulate. My doctor has been super great through the whole process. Good luck to you! It's stressful, and as much as people say it, try not to stress about it. The wait afterwards is awful, but it's eventually going to be worth it!

Thank you all so much! These responses definitetly calmed me a little! We have it set for next cylce which is only 28 days away to start checking the ovarian reserve and then go in when we get the surge for the IUI. I'm hopeful it will work on the first time but trying to be realistic and just be surprised if it does. Congrats to you guys who have had successful rounds and good luck as well to jessadan20 through this process! :D

Good luck with starting the whole process-- it seems sooooo long.

We started testing and tracking and all that fun stuff in July. Then, had our first IUI last month (Dec) and got a BFN ( i think its because i was so stressed at work with the holidays). I also was hopeful that it would happen the first try (I'm 28 and my doc says everything looks "perfect"). We did out second IUI this month, again with no medication, and we have 8 days left in the 2WW before we can test. *fingerscrossed* Good luck to you! Thank you! This month is what I'm calling our "test run" to do the temp, OPK's and everything to get an idea of my ovulation and then next month is the real thing! It seems so crazy we're here already and I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up but it's hard to not be excited. Good luck with your wait! I can't imagine how hard that is! But I guess we'll find out soon lol :p

So I thought our second try was going to happen this month. We order our vial, had it shipped to the doctor's office, I started doing opks on cycle day 11 and went through day 22 with no positive ovulation. This is the first month that I haven't ovulated and I've been tracking since July. Luckily fairfax accepted the vial back and placed it into storage. So, we'll try again next month. I think I get most stressed hoping the timing will fall into place, more so than the two week wait.

I'm nervous too because I'm testing and have gotten negatives so far, but this is only a test month, because I'm neurotic lol. I'm sorry to hear that, though :/ and it's nice that Fairfax will take it back, did they charge alot to ship it back? Luckily my RE does storage too if I were to order but didn't ovulate I guess we could keep it there.

No, it was only a $60 restocking fee and then it's $40 per month to store it. I'm hoping to re-try in February and then if the same scenario occurs next month, I'm going to ask to be given the ovidrel shot so we can still try. I don't have an RE, just using my gyno of which used to do IUI's all the time. I live in a small town, where I would imagine there isn't high demand for donor sperm storage. So I don't have that option, but knowing I can return it if needed puts me at ease. Good luck, and be patient. If you keep getting negatives, try 50 mg of clomid. You may just need a little boost. :-D

Thanks! Yeah next month when we go in for the IUI, if there are folicles and everything, I'll be put on Letrazole. Quick question for you and anyone who sees this, I'm using the Clear blue digital OPK's and It says on the box to do the first urine of the day....but I've read so many things that say otherwise. A lot of people say to do it twice, or even just once in the afternoon. Just wondering if anyone here has an experience or advice to give. Thanks!

I've always tested with first of the day. It's worked so far. There have been times tho that I've tested at like 3 in the morning when I wake up and have to go, just incase kind of thing, and it's been negative. Then when I'd get up with my alarm at 7 to go to work, I'd test again and it be positive. So variation of 4 hours and two completely different results. That's the same brand I use too. If it makes you feel more comfortable do one in the morning and than again in the afternoon. Just be sure u haven't went to the bathroom 4 hours before you test. Give or take a bit.

I actually got my positive OPK yesterday afternoon at 3pm. I tested in the morning, and it was still low, and I had to go around 3 and didn't drink anything for quite a while before and then I got the peak. So I'll just do both next month lol and I'll be on the meds so that'll be fun to decipher

Im super nervous too! I just did my IUI on sunday...I was given a "trigger" called Ovidrel. I find out my results on 2/10...its our first try. Im 32, same sex partner.

Good luck to everyone. We used the Clearblue fertility monitor with our daughter- it worked great and we got pregnant on the third month with a natural cycle IUI- no trigger shot or fertility meds. She is now 17 months old and we'd like a sibling but aren't having much luck. Just an FYI- don't waste your time with the OPK's if you are doing the monitoring with your fertility dr or if you are triggering with a shot. I monitored while doing the trigger shot and it was all off. They had me go in 36 hours after the trigger. This is month 6 of trying and our first time using Clomid and Prometrium in addition to the Ovidrel. We find out Monday- keeping our fingers crossed!

hi all! I am in the same place and getting very excited. We will try for the first time at my next cycle. I am 29 and healthy, all my tests came back great so we are good to go. I too am nervous but am trying to just stay positive about it all. Stress can only hurt at this point. My wife and I are glad to hear others in a similar position got pregnant in 1 to 3 tries. Best of luck to everyone!

My partner and I are currently in our 2ww on what we hope will be baby number two. My partner carried our first, who will be 4 in March and got pregnant on her first medicated IUI. I am on my 2nd unmedicated IUI (different clinics, different doctor). I am hoping to get pregnant with our second, we are using the same donor we did for our first so the babies would be biologically related. Here's hoping!!!! Good luck to everyone else as well.

My wife and I tried at home for the first time in October. I was temping and using OPKs. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I think I was off by a day!!! Ugh. We then decided to go through a fertility clinic for the next cycle. The cycle was medicated and monitored and we triggered on cycle day 14 and had the IUI the following day. The TWW was dreadful. I was still temping. Unfortunately (again), my temp dropped the same day I had my blood work. I knew before I got to the RE's office that it was going to be negative since my temp dropped significantly in the morning. We decided to stop trying for two months (December and January). I'm so excited to say that we are trying again in February. My period can't come soon enough! I'm hoping that the preliminary tests come back awesome and we can get started again in 9 days!!! Loads and loads of baby dust to all of us!!!

Hi everyone. Best of luck an lots of well wishes to each and everyone of you. I have had my last 2 initial consultations cancelled due to snow. I am now scheduled for the consultation on Thursday with R.A.D. of DE. How long has everyone needed to wait/test/etc before their first go with IUI or IVF?

We had our CD2 ultrasound yesterday and I have 3 or four good sized follicles! I was so excited I forgot to ask for actual measurments but they nurse said they looked perfect. We ordered our vials for next week and I'm starting the letrazole tonight. I've been told some women experience trouble sleeping on this medacine or night sweats. Hopefully that's not what happens to me since I have such a hard time falling asleep as is! Anyway, we'll go in for the IUI-which I might have to go to alone depending on work schedules :/-next week. Thanks for all the advice and good luck to all the ladies in the same boat! Keep me updated on your progress. I love to read the stories on here :D

Our vial ships out today and we're so excited. I'm really trying not to get so happy incase it doesn't work but this has been the best part of the process. Thanks to all who have commented on here and made me feel a lot better. I don't really know anyone in my circle who's even close to going through this so it's very nice that all of you are. Good luck to everyone and keep us posted on results! :D

Good luck!!! It's so exciting to know it's on it's way. Stay positive and good things will happen. My vial is at the doctor's office, just waiting for positive ovulation and today is day 20. Really hoping this isn't a repeat of last month. Keep us posted!

Thank you! We had it done today, definitely sore from it. They had to use a tool to get to the cervix so I'm cramping tonight but it'll be worth it and would do it all over again if we had to. Here's to the tww! Lol good luck everyone!!

Hi. I had 3 IUI's without meds with all resulting in negatives. My partner and I decided to do Clomid 50mg and Ovridrel. Had my CD11 ultrasound and doc found 2 really nice-sized follicles measuring at 23 and 17. Had Ovridrel shot that morning(2/23) and went in for our 1st medicated IUI yesterday(2/24). Also using a different donor than our previous 3 tries. I'm feeling hopeful that this one will work. Good luck to everyone.
