Good luck sheannca! Thinking of you. I am in a TWW also!
  • mrccjfmrccjf Member Member
In the TWW for my 4th and final IUI with 4991 before moving to IVF - we will see which way my uterus takes :) Aiming to not stress it either way. My wife and I are a day apart this IUi cycle.

Thanks Waited40! I actually found out that my first was didn't take. On to second round soon.

Good luck on round two sheannca! Second time was it for me! I’ll be 20 weeks this week.

Thanks hun! What an emotional roller coaster this is. I wish I had more control over making it happening.

    How are you feeling A&DHarter?
  • A&DHarterA&DHarter Member Member
sheannca- I feel pretty good. I did acupuncture throughout my pregnancy and I am convinced it helped with the woes of the first trimester that so many people experience. Are you doing medicated cycles? I did clomid and trigger for both. Try not to stress- I understand that is easier said than done. I was an anxious mess the first time and a bit more relaxed the second try. I thank acupuncture for relaxing me as well!

Glad everything is going well! :)

Yes, I'm doing medicated cycles. I'm using letrozole and the trigger shot (on top of supplements). Unfortunately, I messed up the trigger shot the first time. It's possible it was a defective needle because as much as I pushed the second needle into the syringe, the medicine still came out the sides when I depressed the needle. Of course that could have messed everything up for me. I'm worried that I'll have the same result the second time. I need to have a nice discussion with the the nurse regarding my needle concerns. Did your trigger shot have the medicine already mixed in the syringe or did you have to mix it together?

It's all so weird. I was so convinced that I was pregnant because of all the mild cramping and back pains, I don't typically cramp. Perhaps it was from the meds. I'll keep going. Hoping the trigger shot works the second time. Fingers crossed! Of course we used the same donor, but do you recall your specimen's motility? Taball's was less than mine but she got it on the first try. I'm just curious if all of the specimen's are relatively the same. :)

My first cycle I used 50mg Clomid & the trigger shot (pre-mixed) w/the IUI Day 12 (36 hours after trigger) - I had two worthy follicles at 20mm and 17mm and a 7mm lining. That cycle I had TERRIBLE cramping and REALLY enlarged breasts which made me think it had worked. Unfortunately, I started my period on Day 23 which clocked me at an 11 day luteal phase.

My second cycle I used 50mg Clomid & the trigger shot (pre-mixed) w/the IUI Day 11 (36 hours after trigger) - on my first ultrasound (Day 9) I had one follicle at 17mm and another at 30mm (likely a cyst from the first cycle) with a 5.5mm lining. I was extremely anxious and on edge that cycle, and cramped throughout, and it also didn't work - I started my period on Day 23 again. Since Clomid was thinning my linine, had caused a cyst (which meant I had to skip the next cycle), and was causing me anxiety, I went to Letrozole for the third cycle.

My third cycle I began 5mg Letrozole w/the trigger shot (pre-mixed) w/the IUI Day 12 (36 hours after trigger). I had two 18mm follicles on my right side the day before I took the trigger shot, and a 6mm lining. This cycle I also began progesterone suppositories the day after my IUI to help lengthen my luteal phase. I had minimal PMS symptoms this cycle, which I thought surprising since I added the progesterone. I had a BFN on Day 14 so I took myself off progesterone and started my period on Day 28.

This cycle I continued the 5mg Letrozole w/the trigger shot (pre-mixed) and did the IUI on Day 10 (24-hours after trigger!). I had one follicle at 21mm and one at 16mm with a 6mm lining. I had cramping 1dpiui, but symptoms have been relatively mild otherwise. I am continuing to use progesterone.

What I'm learning? It's hard to know what makes it not work (or work) each month - besides the fact that there is a 20% likelihood each month of success. I've analyzed every possibility in the book. This is my last cycle before shifting to IVF, so I'm hoping it might be my lucky try :)

As far as motility, this past cycle the Donor 4991 was 33% motility with 15million motile sperm. I have noticed that it has varied (the previous cycle it was 45% motility w/23 million motile sperm). They explained to me that the percentage isn't necessarily as important as the number of motile sperm (which needs to be above 10 million).

    Good luck w/your next round!
  • SherylSheryl Senior Member Senior Member
Thanks Mrccif! I wish you luck as well.

My Doctor had made a big deal over the motility, "normally we see over 50%." So, that kind of freaked me on top of the whole trigger shot not working. I need to make sure the shot works this time. I don't know why I wasn't prescribed the pre-mixed. No issues with poking myself, but the syringe seemed to be defective. Plus this round I decided to add another supplement and will be monitoring my ovulation with the over-the-counter tests. I kind of feel like I should be doing more. LOL. I don't know how many follicles I had I just know that I add one that was 16 mm. I almost feel like there were 3 at the same measurements because the measurement was 3x on the monitor. I'm going to ask more questions this round. I think the cyst that I had my original first round had me a bit tense.

Hopefully it works this time. I think I'll only do one more IUI after the current one and switch to IVF. Isn't your wife going through the process as well? How is she doing?

I’m the same way - I have been taking a prenatal, 4mg folic acid, a baby aspirin, and COQ10 religiously. I have had acupuncture twice a week the entire time that I’ve been doing IUIs. I haven’t had a cup of coffee in 6 months and have only had an adult beverage probably 4 times in the past 4 months. My wife, on the other hand, is the opposite of controlling. She goes about her life as she always does and figures it will happen when it happens :) I will say that I’m wildly educated now on every part of the process, but all of my attempted manipulation is probably not going to change the outcome, lol. We did our last IUI a day apart so we should know about the same time (we are on 6/7dpiui).

Could you get a premixed syringe?

mrccf: Good luck to you and your wife! I am very impressed with how well you have been tracking it. Your notes make me wish I had written everything down :( Live and learn I suppose - I dont think this one worked either :( I just kinda feel it. I think I am being hypersensitive and noticing every ache, twinge, cramp, etc - but I just know success rates at my age (40+) arent good. I am not sure how many more IUI I will do before moving to IVF but I am honestly afraid of IVF - I dont know how I will handle the retreival cycles. I just imagine I wont have any good eggs and will end up doing donor after all of that work retrieving. ... Anyways, I do hope this is your lucky one!

shennaca: My vials have been hit or miss. I ordered ICI but my clinic washes anyways - First IUI was like 18 mill day one and 4 mill day 2...(back to back IUI)..... Second month (this one) was 14 mill day one and 5 mill day 2....which worried me... I dont think they gave me the motility numbers? Perhaps thats another thing I need to ask for.... I wish you the best shen!

Waited40: I think it's completely normal to not put too much expectation into each cycle - at first I did and it just made me get super sad when it wouldn't work. That being said, I remain cautiously optimistic. I'm also scared of IVF and the variety of outcomes that people have - particularly since my insurance covers 0%, we shall see. I think that AMH levels/the number of follicles they identified on your initial ultrasound can at least give some hope ... How have you been responding to the fertility meds thus far?

hi mrccjf - You are right, its probably best to not put too much expectation into it all - AMH hmmm...I remember some level was low but they said that was normal for my age :/ Fertility meds are Clomid and an Ovidril shot and I have responded okay.... My clinic wont do the IUI if there are too many follicles - Cycle one I had one at about 18...This cycle one at about 20. What about you?? What do you take if anything? How is it all going for you? I'm crossing my fingers for you....

sheannca- So sorry to hear about your issues with the trigger. Mine came pre-filled so I didn't experience that. I am also a nurse so I am very comfortable with injections and such so I may have an unfair advantage. Have any nurse friends?

My first cycle I had a lot of cramping and sore breasts and I was so convinced that I WAS pregnant. Unfortunately I was not and I remember the disappointment and fear of "what if I can't get pregnant?" The first try my motility was 45% with 21 million motile sperm. The second try I believe it was 40% motility with 16 million motile sperm and that is the one that worked. I remember feeling little to no symptoms the second go round so I was definitely convinced that I WAS NOT pregnant and lo and behold I was. The only think I remember is one sharp cramp on day 1 or 2 and that was about it. No sore breasts, no cramping, no nothing until about day 12 and then I had full on PMS symptoms. I took a digital pregnancy test on day 13, while I was at work and it was shockingly positive.

Hi Waited40. It would make since to have a lower AMH (an indicator of "how many eggs you have left") at 40+ - although in the end it is about egg quality and not egg quantity since it really does just take one healthy egg to get pregnant. As a note, I turn 37 in January so my AMH isn't nearly the level that my wife's is (1.9 versus 3.7). I started on 50mg Clomid for my first two IUIs and then switched to 5mg Femara for the second two because I was concerned about my thinning lining. Each time I have responded well, with at least one leading follicle and at least one other that likely matured to the right size before ovulation. I take a pregnancy test this Friday for Cycle #4, but like you, I tend to believe that it didn't work. These past two cycles I have been on 200mg progesterone suppositories at night, which have extended my luteal phase (which was only 10-11 days on average) to at least 14 days. This cycle I experienced brown and pink spotting the last two days (8dpiui/9dpiui), but I'm not allowing myself to think that it was implantation bleeding because progesterone suppositories can upset your cervix and cause the same exact bleeding. I suppose we will see on Friday - I've been cramping the past couple of days, but it's the same feeling I always have right before I start my period. If this cycle fails, then I will begin the process of IVF egg retrieval too, which also makes me nervous because you can't easily predict the outcome. Just praying and keeping my fingers crossed (and toes). Sending you positive vibes and hoping that patience will prove to be worthwhile.

    Hi A&DHarter!

Unfortunately, I don't have any nurse friends but my sister is going to assist me this round. Considering how late in the evening I had to do the last time, chances are I'll have to do it the same time and wouldn't benefit from a clinic. It's ok. I feel more prepared going in this time.

So, this week I spoke to the nurses and also a Pharmacist with the company where my shot is being mailed from, and both confirmed how I should've handled the needle. In the end I made the mistake. Unfortunately, the first batch didn't come with instructions. So, I popped the top of when I should have screwed it off. Ugh!! It really wasn't obvious as the chamber doesn't actually have a metal groove in which to screw into, really it's embedded in the plastic chamber. The million dollar question I have, "why didn't the Pharmacy provide written instructions.

So, this time around I think I'm pretty confident about doing it correctly. And in the end, I'm not concerned with sticking myself if it comes to it. My newest concern is that my eggs are too old. LOL. At 39 3/4 I'm nervous about how many viable eggs I have left. Why can't this be so easy for all of us? ;) I think I need to figure out a why to relax myself better.

I triggered last night and it went off without a hitch. The mixing, needle change and such. I don't know about you all but it's my biggest stress-point. Going forward Im celebrating the little successes. :)
