  • This was my first insemination so I went for the initial consultation then to get inseminated and that's it so far.
  • @dreams- I've gone for an HSG, a trial baseline, fasting lab, and ultra sound all back in Nov. I'm actually starting my first try this month on a natural cycle and I've gone for baselines and an ultrasound to see how many follicles I had. My next appt will be with any two lines on an ovulation test starting day 9 of my cycle so they can monitor the growth of my maturing follicles...basically to better determine by follie size and blood work which day would be best to inseminate. all in all, I'm looking at 2-3 visits before my actual IUI.
  • Did your doctor recommend all this testing that you've had done to better your chances? I'm just wondering if mine should be doing more so I have a better chance at conceiving but when I talked to her she didn't say anything about taking any meds or if that would help. I don't have any insurance coverage for this but buying a bunch of vials gets expensive too. Anybody out there have any recommendations for me to ak my doc?
  • are you going to an RE or an OBGYN for your insemination? My RE recommended that I have an HSG done just to make sure i didn't have any blocked tubes. My uterus and fallopian tubes looked fine, but the point of it, as stated by my doc, was to make sure I don't waist money on several vials only to find out that i wasn't getting pregnant due to blocked tubes. They also did blood work as a standard protocol in their office to make sure that all your levels where in a good zone, and if not, they can prescribe you the necessary medications to correct the issue. I found out that I had low vitamin D so I'm taking those supplements now along with prenatals. I would ask what tests they could do to insure that all your levels are normal (estrogen, progesterone, FSH, Vitamin D, Insulin, etc) and after that is done, I would try again and if it still doesn't work, then I would look into the HSG test just to insure you're not wasting money on vials. My insurance states that they don't cover any fertility treatments, but when I went into my RE's office for the first time, they ran my insurance and told me that my blood work would be covered 100% and that my ultrasounds would only be a $25 copay for each.

  • I only purchased 1 vial for this go around. I wasn't crazy about any donor in particular so I don't have a strong attachment. If this attempt works, then I will invest in purchasing more for future siblings. If he does not work this time and he stops donating, then I will move on to the next donor of choice. If you find one you really like then I suggest getting as many as you can of that particular donor. As far as the cost...if you were to need meds, there are several discount programs offered where you can get the meds for a lower price.

  • I did choose not to do the Hsg test right off since no insurance coverage but they didn't do any blood work but Rubella and blood typing. I go to an Advanced Reproductive Care Center that was recommended to me by a co-worker that had 2 babies through there. I am calling tomorrow and asking some questions. I bought 3 vials because thats what the doc recommended instead of paying shipping each time, you just have decide to take a chance on which way will be cheaper and I don't think yoo many people get pregnant the first time around.
  • @dreams- If you google IVF meds or discount pharmacies you'll find a lot of online pharmacies that have lower priced fertility meds that might not be covered by your insurance. Your doctor will probably have a list of some they recommend as well.

I will be trying again as soon as I start my next cycle. I have no fertility issues and have a child from a previous relation ship. I took 2 months off because I was doing clomid which caused 5 cysts on my right ovary. Anyway I have had good numbers with this donor: 28 mil, 14 mil, 17 mil and 18 mil. The doctor said the motility was good, but I forget the %. Any of you ladies had any luck?
  • I will also be trying again around the end of the month. I talked to my doc and she said I don't really need to take any meds or anything right now. Jenn - I hope it works for you this time, it sounds like you've been waiting awhile.
  • I'll be going to the doc tomorrow for a follie scan to see how they are maturing...hopefully have the IUI in the next couple of days. I'll keep you ladies posted! Can't wait for you all to try again with him!
  • I noticed there is a waiting list for our donor now. When I purchased mid December there were 48 vials.
  • @blink- I noticed that as well...hopefully there is more in quarantine waiting to be released.

  • I don't know how long. I have 2 vials left so I didn't put myself on the list. I should be trying again by the end of next week. Artist- what about you?

  • Dreams - I would have a few backup donors also just in case or you might be waiting longer than you want to.

  • Definately something to think about. Sometimes I would like to have 2 and be done but it's a lot harder to manage. There are 2 sets of twins in my family but not from my side. My mom will be my primary babysitter and I don't know how she would feel about 2 at once. :D

  • Wow that sounds like you've been through alot. I hope after all that you have done you get pregnant. I will be trying again by the end of this week just using the ovulation kit. If after these 3 vials don't work then I am going to have to get some testing done. I asked the doc and she said wait because of all the cost involved. Did they have you lay down for awhile after your IUI procedure? I always thought people did that for like 15 to 30 minutes and they told me there was no need for that but if you tell me you did then I am going to do it this time. :D
  • @blink- I KNOW! I was so frustrated that they kept having me come in each day like that! I was eating tangerines and collard greens for all these added nutrients to help it grow each day they told me to "come back tomorrow". after two days of that I had a 1.9 cm pre-baby and they gave me the trigger and the IUI the next morning! I DID lay down for about 15 min. as per the nurse. That's their protocol so you should do it too! lol I think the trigger shot has me emotional and really sensitive...I know it's what's causing my breasts to be sore. I also was gassy yesterday evening until this morning. I asked the ladies on my FB group about being gassy and someone told me that they felt that way too after every IUI they had. I'll start to test out my trigger shot around day 6 post trigger (which was given on monday) to make sure that my test results will be accurate when I decide to test at home. I've also been having slight cramps off and on since the IUI. Did you experience any of these things?
  • I had some cramping for a few days but that was all and a slight pinkish tinted discharge. I started pots today so this time I am going to wait 15 minutes after the iui. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  • Thanks! Baby dust to you in hopes that this time works! I also got my counts from the doctor. He had 17.39 million motile sperm and of that amount, 45% moving forward. I asked the nurse what they look for in the percentage and she said anything greater than 32%
  • I got the smiley face so I'm getting the IUI Friday. I'm going to stay there 15 minutes and also ask about the sperm percentage moving forward, Last time she just showed me the microscope and they there runnning around in circles and she said the percentage was 36% but not anything about moving forward, so thanks for the questions to ask because I'm begining to wonder about this place.
