This is such a wonderful forum. I appreciate all of the insightful stories and support. It means a lot to know I'm not alone in my experiences.
Congrats Bluesky!!! How very exciting! I'm thrilled about your awesome Beta numbers :-) I'm keeping you in my thoughts and am looking forward to your updates. Continue to be hopeful and positive.
    All the best!

Moe I totally agree with you. This is so therapeutic for me to be able to come here to relate to people who are going through what I'm going through without all the drama and negativity. I went to the doctor yesterday for the consult and my confidence level is up again! She said at this point my numbers are perfect on paper and the donor's numbers are good and with him actually having reported births then all is well there too. She said the only thing we don't know is what my egg quality is and the only way to find out is by doing IVF since they go in and pull the eggs out and can look at them under the microscope but again she said all the numbers look good so there's no need to suspect anything wrong at this point. She said she would recommend starting injections prior to my next IUI to produce more eggs or IVF. The doctor agreed that I needed to get my "juices" flowing again so I ordered this yoga DVD from Amazon and I called an accupuncturist who I will be seeing within the next week. She said she has had patients doing IVF, IUI, natural conception the whole gammet. She's calling to verify my insurance tomorrow and is very witty! She said she knows how to bill it to get them to pay. My kind of woman! What the doctor did say that made me happy was that I was not a candidate for Clomid since I ovulate on my own and my periods are regular and it can wreak havoc on your body if it's used in the wrong way. So I'm hoping to move forward next month with my next IUI on injectibles (that my insurance pays for!), my new yoga DVD and accupuncture! Cross your fingers!

Bluesky, so glad to hear your good news! Keep us posted!

Well, had my 3rd beta today. Numbers came back at 709! The number more than doubled, and the spotting has lightened so I think we are doing good!

Hi ladies I wanted to give you an update. I went to accupuncture yesterday and talking about getting your juices flowing, OMG! First let me just say I was exhausted when I went b/c I stayed up way too late the night before! When I was done I came home walked the dog almost 3 miles (previously only did about 2 miles), did some laundry, did some work and still made it to bed on time! I slept so good and felt so good today. I also drank about 4 bottles of water and made several trips to the potty for #1 & #2 (I know TMI) so I feel clean as a whistle! I am going to continue weekly treatments until IUI time next month. Talk about recharging your batteries and relieving stress! If you haven't tried it I definitely recommend it. The doctor was really cool and even said she'd come to my doctor's office on IUI day to do it before and after the IUI. I say at this point it can't hurt so that's my plan.

The yoga for fertility DVD is kicking my you know what but again, makes me feel so much better. I thought I would be cool since I've been practicing yoga for almost 6 years, whew they really focus on loosening your woman parts up. I've also started taking some vitamin D (can't hurt!)

Best of luck to everyone! :)

Well my HSG came back clear.....my tubes are not blocked and uterus lining looks fine. So after taking a couple of cycles off the crazy hormone rollercoaster ride begins. I asked the doctor why the success rate for IUI's isn't any different than if two fertile people got busy for two days straight. It's only about 20-25% effective each attempt. My doctor said that sometimes there are bad eggs and/or sperm and the planets just don't line up....(I'm thinking I need a more scientific rationale) but that was all that was offered. It just doesn't make sense that the IUI's wouldn't be like atleast 50% more effective then the good ole fashioned way.

    Oh well, more to come......
  • latebloomerlatebloomer Senior Member Senior Member
    Moe,

That's good news! I've heard that people who do IUI right after the HSG are usually successful so if you're ready to go at it again I would be curious to see how it works out for you. I had my 3rd IUI on Friday so I'm in the 2WW. This time it's different though and I can't really put my hand on it as to why but maybe that means good news! I can only hope! I did injections and accupuncture this time and neither was bad at all. The accupuncture really got my juices flowing and then I got the same number of follicles using the injections (3) as I did with my natural cycles however with the injections the follies matured quicker and the smallest was 18 so I'm hoping I got one good egg out of the 3. I find out on 4/21 so I'll post results then. Not even going to POAS this time! I'm all out of tests and am not going to spend money on any more. Let me know what you end up doing! Good luck and lots of baby dust to you:)
  • bluesky10bluesky10 Senior Member Senior Member
If your smallest was 18 then all 3 are big enough to be fertilized. Good luck to both of you guys.

OOOHHH, Latebloomer!!!! Fingers crossed and sticky baby dust during your two week wait. I think the third time is a charm.....From all the various forums it seems like there's more success with injectibles vs Chomid. I agree with you not making yourself crazy peeing on sticks and just holding out for the real deal, the bloodtest! My third IUI will be with Clomid (last time I had two follies that grew fast). The plan is to go for it in about 4 weeks when AF is due. I have also heard of the HSG clearing out debris from the tubes and improving the success rate. Only time will tell. I will certainly keep you updated. Hoping to hear wonderful news next week from you Latebloomer!

Bluesky MOM, how are you feeling....still queasy? You've been quiet. We all want updates :-) Last we heard your were about 6 weeks and baby was measuring about 7 (I think) and you were able to hear the little plums heartbeat!!! What week are you now and when's your next peak at the little bump? Hope being preggo is agreeing with you but if not we all know it's certainly worth IT!!

    All the best!
    Moe

Still sick, more so now then earlier. I dont get any more ultrasounds until 18-20 weeks. My next checkup is May 2nd and I will just get the hear the heartbeat.
  • latebloomerlatebloomer Senior Member Senior Member
Well ladies the 2WW is over and the verdict is in.....BFP!!!! Had the beta this morning and my number was 66 so I'll have the test repeated Saturday to make sure it's doubling and then on Monday the doctor's office will call and let me know what my new number is and when my first appointment will be. So excited and so scared all at the same time. It's super early so only my mom and 2 best friends know and I swore them all to secrecry. One of my BFFs actually went when I had the IUI done and she said she was my lucky charm! So now I'm just hoping my little bean is sticky!

I'm super tired so it's time for a nap!! Bluesky I hope you're doing better (not as sick).
  • moewhitmoewhit Senior Member
Awesome news Latebloomer!!! Looks like the third time was a charm plus your BFF for good luck. I'm thrilled to hear of another success, there seems to be a trend the past few cycles. Maybe I will be next!
Congrats on finally getting your BFP and I'm wishing you a healthy and happy 9 months. Continue with frequent updates please :-)

Ok...I've gotta ask. This may sound dumb but I have no idea what everyone is talking about when they say BFP or BFN. I'm new at this and I want to understand! :)
  • bluesky10bluesky10 Senior Member Senior Member
    BFP= Big Fat Positive
    BFN= Big Fat Negative

I have been doing ok. Seem to be getting some life back into me. I have horrible mood swings and am an emotional mess but otherwise ok. The gagging and nausea seemed to slow but this morning I did all I could to make it to the kitchen sink before I puked. LUckly it was just liquids as I hadnt ate yet, was just cleaning house.

Congrats Late. Good luck! I am officially 11 weeks today.
  • jl2011jl2011 Member Member
Congrats Bluesky! Glad to hear of a success story.
I have a question for you ladies. I'm new at this. I"ll be having my second IUI on 5/2. I'm reading a lot on here that the IUI is better timed around 30 hours after the trigger shot. But, on my first IUI attempt...my doctor gave me the shot at 7:30am on Saturday morning and didn't do the IUI until 9:30am Monday morning...so that was over a full 48 hours after the shot. Is this ok? My doctor says it is fine. But, I'm reading a lot of your stories and it seems like it is more successful closer to the time of 30 hours after the shot. I'm nervous I am just getting stuck with this time frame because they are closed on Sunday!
  • latebloomerlatebloomer Senior Member Senior Member
That does seem like a long time between the trigger and IUI. My last one was exactly at 36 hours. The last 2 were scheduled for 36 hours and went about 30-40 mintues over but this last one was done 36 hours on the nose. I had the trigger shot (I did it myself) at 10pm Weds night and the doctor was doing the IUI at 10am on Friday morning. This last time where I got my BFP they asked me to come at 9:30 so I could be in the room and ready at 9:45 and the doctor came in immediately and right at 10am BAM! I am a true believer that this thing is all about timing. If the doctor is not comfortable letting you administer the trigger shot on your own maybe you can find a midwife that can do it at the right time if the doctor's office is closed because if he's missing the egg drop then he's totally wasting your money and it will never happen. However I'm not an expert either and most books that you read will say that sperm can live up to 3-5 days inside you but again if the egg is already gone they will never catch it.

    Good luck to you!
  • bluesky10bluesky10 Senior Member Senior Member
I had mine 36 hours after. Once an egg is relesed it will only live for 12-24 hours.
  • jl2011jl2011 Member Member
Well when I asked the nurse about it because I said it seemed like a really long time after the shot she showed me on my "chart" where I'll be ovulating Sunday night around midnight after the trigger shot and Monday morning is fine because the egg will be "right there" according to her. I still feel uncomfortable about it. But, this chart they gave me this month is the same one they gave me last month so it must be the same one they give everyone. I'd just feel more comfortable having it a little earlier. I wish they would let me administer the shot myself. It's not like it is that hard and I watched her do it last month. They charge me $100 just for her to give me that little bitty shot anyway.
  • moewhitmoewhit Senior Member
    To Jl2011,
May I ask what state you live in? I'm wondering why the doc or nurse doesn't call your pharmacy and have you pick up and administer your own HCG trigger shot?? Do they really charge you $100  That sounds like a rip-off! Also you may want to shop around and see what other fertility centers are in your area. My place is Shady Grove Fertility and they are open 365 days because after all what if you ovulate EARLY SUNDAY morning??!! That's just setting you up for a potentially wasted cycle and $$. Even if the office is open for a few hours it gives an opportunity for success. This is all so very time sensitive.

Giving the trigger shot is easy. It should be stored in the fridge but when you are ready, allow it to sit at room temp (about 30-40 minutes) this minimized the burning as the medicine is injected.
There are different areas depending on the docs recommendation mine instructed me to give a belly shot. I've heard of some giving hip shots. Of course wash your hands first.
    1. Clean area a couple inches lateral (sideways)from the belly button with a alcohol swab (let air dry)
    2. Ovidril comes preloaded, just remove cap from needle (carefully)
    3. Pinch about an 1 and 1/2 inch of your belly fat.
    4. Insert needle and push plunger SLOWLY until there's no more HCG.
    5. Wipe with another alcohol swab (might bleed slightly)

And that's it! If you don't feel like you are being given the right protocol you should go elsewhere. They should be able to tweak their protocol based on the patient not just issue cookie-cutter instructions.

Good luck and continue to ask questions that's the best way to be an informed consumer.

I live in Louisiana. I only paid $80 for the HCG shot itself and received it in the mail. I was told not to store it in the fridge that it should be kept at room temperature. This time (same as last) I was told to bring it to the doctors office at 7:30am Saturday morning and they would administer...and I pay them $100. :x
I've done a lot of research and this fertility clinic is great and the doctor I am using is too. And, ofcourse it is uncomfortable to question him. But, I can't help but think this second IUI could have more of a chance at success if I weren't having it 50 hours after the shot.
I'm on 50mg of clomid day 4-8 (same as first IUI)
HCG shot on day 13 (Saturday at 7:30am)
IUI on day 15 Monday morning (last time the earliest they could schedule me was for 9:30am)

I'd just feel better about it if it were Sunday afternoon I guess.
  • moewhitmoewhit Senior Member
I think that's a sham...you have the HCG delivered BUT have to bring it into the office?? Also having the IUI 50 hours later?? I would rather do it slightly early so the sperm is waiting when the egg is released. Sperm last 3-5 days while the egg is viable only 12-24 hours. Wishing you lots of baby dust for a successful cycle! Please keep us posted!

JL2011, I'm just in shock that they are giving you a chart for this. My doctor monitored me with ultrasounds on my natural cycles and especially while I was on the injectibles. My doctor's office is technically closed on the weekends however if that's someone's time to be monitored or IUI/IVF administered then they make your appointment for the weekend and they are there for you. You should never feel uncomfortable to question the doctor. You pay him way too much money to treat you unfairly or not answer your questions. I just feel like based on what you're saying that they have you missing the boat (well the egg in this matter) and we all know if you miss the egg there will be no chance of conception. I've never heard of anyone receiving a chart for IUI (but that doesn't mean that other places don't)

I think I would have to take the bull by the horns in this matter and administer the shot myself 36 hours prior to the scheduled IUI. There's no need to pay them $100 for that because like Moe said, it's really easy to do. You definitely have a right to question this doctor (or any other doctor) about your patient care and if they are offended then perhaps that's not the right place for you. I am also shocked he would have you on clomid with no monitoring....girlfriend I think it's time to ask some questions! The other thing is if they are not doing any monitoring how do they know how many follicles you have and if they are even mature enough? That has a lot to do with whether you will conceive as well. You have too many blanks that need to be filled in. If I were you I would either schedule an appointment to have a face to face conversation or at least write everything down and have a phone call with the doctor and explain you're uncomfortable with the protocol and how can he be sure this will work based on what he's giving you without any monitoring. Between my 2nd & 3rd tries I sat down with the doctor and had my notebook with all my questions and we went down the list one by one and decided to go with injectibles after all my questions were answered. My doctor commented on how she liked how organized and focused I was on this and if I had any other questions to call her or the nurse. That truly put me at ease and here I am with my little bean!

If you want to know what some of the questions were I asked and had answered send me an email to clwilliams98@hotmail.com and I'd be glad to help you out:) Best of luck to you!

2nd beta is in ladies! I'm up to 244 and progesterone and estrogen levels are good as well. My first appointment is 5/16 but I'm too tired to think about it! Between the excessive peeing and sleeping, I don't have time to think about anything and I've learned to write EVERYTHING down!! My due date is 1/5/12. It sounds so far away though! I'll check in with you ladies between my next potty trip and nap! Lots of baby dust to you all:)
